The Hartt School of the University of Hartford is pleased to announce a new full-time, tenure track position in Piano. This Associate Professor position will begin in August of 2021. In addition to teaching piano lessons to undergraduate and graduate students, there is also the opportunity to teach other keyboard related courses within the curriculum.

The primary responsibility of this position is teaching private piano lessons at the undergraduate and graduate levels. Other potential curricular courses to be taught could include any of the following: Piano Pedagogy, Accompanying, Keyboard Repertoire and Chamber Music. There will also be opportunities to teach in our innovative University Interdisciplinary Studies program.

The successful candidate will contribute to student recruitment and retention as well as curriculum development and assessment. Full-time duties also include adjudicating auditions and juries, advising students, attending faculty meetings and serving on departmental, school and university committees.
Additionally, the ideal candidate will be expected to remain active in performance, pedagogical, or other creative/scholarly pursuits and to seek opportunities for peer review and publication.

Required Qualifications

A Bachelor's degree is the minimal requirement. Additional requirements include either a graduate degree or diploma with ample professional performing and teaching experience or an extraordinary performance career with teaching experience. Teaching experience is preferred at the collegiate level. Performing experience should include solo recital and concerto repertoire. In addition, experience with chamber music and ensemble playing is advantageous. Excellent teaching, artistry, organizational, communication and interpersonal skills are essential. Candidates should show a willingness and ability to employ some technology in teaching. The commitment and ability to recruit new undergraduate and graduate students is crucial.

The Hartt School offers accredited undergraduate and graduate programs in music, dance and theatre. The Hartt School is a school of performing arts within a mid-size university setting.
