POSITION DETAILS:

The School of Music at Sacramento State seeks applications for a full-time lecturer position as Director of Marching & Athletic Bands. Demonstrated success in directing/producing high-level marching bands at the college or high school level. Success at administering athletic band programs and producing half-time shows. Position will include a combination of teaching units and reassigned time support for administrative activities. Must have ability to work with a diverse student population. This is a temporary lectureship that may be renewed annually dependent upon satisfactory performance, curricular needs, student enrollment, and budgetary considerations. The initial appointment will be for one year, renewable to three. A decision concerning extension of the appointment will be made at the end of the first year and annually thereafter. Salary commensurate with qualifications and experience.


JOB DUTIES:
  • Design the elements and teach the Marching Band's presentations in pregame and halftime performances at football games and special events
  • Direct the Pep Band, Winter Percussion group, and the Winter Guard
  • Active recruiting at Sacramento State, high schools, and community colleges
  • Administration of marching and athletic band program
  • Develop/sustain marching/athletic bands, management of budgets and equipment, fund-raising, grant-writing, and touring


REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Earned master's degree in music (M.A. or M.M.) or equivalent experience
  • Three years Marching Band teaching experience at high school or collegiate level
  • Strong background as a creative designer marching band director withdemonstrable potential to teach successfullyat the collegiate level
  • Ability to work with a diverse student population and to embrace cultural diversity in their work
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate with faculty and staff colleagues


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Record of success at marching band competitions
  • Experience as an innovative and skilled instructor of record at the collegiate level
  • Evidence of ability and interest in student recruitment and community outreach
  • Experience with administrative duties, budget managing, travel, logistics, and fundraising
